Cryptobia salmositica

Blood flagellates (single-celled organisms which swim with a whip-like tail) can be found in adult salmon and steelhead trout in Oregon. They are not visible without a microscope. Cryptobia needs an intermediate host in its life cycle - a freshwater leech. Fish can be very heavily infected with Cryptobia, which leads to anaemia and death.
